abyssinia4077 wanted to know why alot of stories couldn't be in an of themselves just about the characters without shipping of any kind. One of the stories that was used was Freedoms Just Another Word for Nothing Left To Loose by Synecdochic, who is by the way an absolutely awesome writer. The opinion of this individual was that the story stood for itself and having Rodney think about John and the fact that they were lovers took away from the story instead of adding the many layers. I have an answer that I really would like to send to this person but what I read was many moons ago and I have been pondering since. The answer is this, people love a good love story and for the most part have the need to have pair bonds, as they say in the Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom shows, and prefer to have people not be alone.
As to taking away from this story it is nothing of the sort, in fact without the history and joy that he had from being John's lover he wouldn't be the character that he was. This was experience that he learned from that "wise tired voice" and from the family and friends that he lost. This was the most incredible story that I have read in a long time and the story afterwards with Elizabeth and Ronan is just wonderful as well. I loved this story from beginning to end and was really sorry that there were no more added to the series because I think that John would have been proud of Rodney and his children. Also he could have wrecked havoc with the "project". Well here it is for anyone who is interested.
